The short story:

She’s talented and well off, married to an emotionally abusive man. He’s ten years younger, a struggling grad student and her private chef, committed to a professional relationship until she’s divorced. Her best friend holds her up as her husband tries to break her down, and her chef offers more than expected. Will the maelstrom destroy them, or will love grow and passion break down the walls?

The long story:

Autumn has the advantages of an Ivy League education plus natural beauty, but that hasn’t guaranteed her an easy life. After an idyllic childhood in Philadelphia’s upscale suburbs, her mother urges her into a standard business-track career so she’ll never be dependent on a man. But that means giving up her dreams of becoming an artist. And it also means marrying a man who fits the corporate, competitive lifestyle she thought she should lead. She’s well-off and has a big house plus every material advantage anyone could have, but it’s not what she wants.

Just as Autumn suspects her marriage is a big mistake, her parents are killed in a car crash, and she buries her heart in her work. Multiple awards, promotions, and five years later, massive cutbacks mean she’s laid off, and she finally faces reality.

Isolated now in a tiny rural town an hour from Philadelphia, she examines her life as she attempts to resurrect her creative dreams. And as her innate talent blossoms and her confidence grows, she can no longer endure her husband’s demeaning treatment and her sexless marriage. Finally, she files for divorce and leans on her lifelong best friend as his erratic behavior worsens.

But coming up with a business plan and creating artwork she can sell takes time and commitment, and she needs help. With the closest restaurants and grocery stores twenty minutes away, she toys with the idea of a personal chef, and Jory, a mesmerizing graduate student ten years her junior, turns out to be far more than she was looking for. Intelligent, compassionate, a fabulous cook, and oh so sexy, he’s firm about his “hands off” policy until she’s divorced. But their passion battles against the wall they build, and as Autumn reawakens to freedom, desire, and her true self, she’s humiliated and crushed again and again as she faces her past, present, and future and the husband who tries to destroy her.
